INTIMATE irish wedding
Amy and Ian’s Charles Fort wedding in Kinsale was the perfect celebration of everything that makes an Irish destination wedding so unforgettable. With friends travelling from Canada to celebrate on the Emerald Isle, their beautiful June wedding blended emotional moments, incredible scenery and a relaxed, editorial style that suited the day perfectly.
As a Kinsale wedding photographer, I love photographing weddings in this part of West Cork. From colourful streets and historic landmarks to spectacular coastal views, Kinsale offers endless opportunities for relaxed documentary wedding photography with an editorial edge. Charles Fort, in particular, is one of Ireland's most unique wedding venues, combining centuries of history with breathtaking views across Kinsale Harbour.
Filled with heartfelt moments, stylish fashion, emotional family connections, documentary storytelling and elegant editorial portraits captured on both digital and film, Amy and Ian's wedding is the perfect inspiration for couples planning a Charles Fort wedding or a destination wedding in Kinsale.
Amy and Ian began their wedding morning at the beautiful Pier House B&B, tucked away in the heart of Kinsale. The relaxed atmosphere made for the perfect start to the day as they got ready surrounded by their closest family and friends before making their way to Charles Fort for an intimate indoor ceremony.
Although proudly Irish, the couple now call Canada home, and one of the most special parts of the day was seeing so many of their Canadian friends make the journey across the Atlantic to celebrate with them in Ireland. It gave the entire wedding the feeling of a destination celebration, bringing together two countries, two communities and everyone they love in one extraordinary place.
After the ceremony, we explored the historic grounds of Charles Fort for a mix of relaxed documentary moments and editorial-inspired portraits. The fort's dramatic stone walls, sweeping harbour views and coastal light create one of the most spectacular backdrops for wedding photography in Cork, allowing us to capture images that felt both timeless and effortlessly modern.
From there, everyone made their way to Blacks Brewery & Distillery in Kinsale for a reception that perfectly reflected Amy and Ian's personalities. Emotional speeches had everyone laughing and crying in equal measure before the celebrations continued with a champagne tower, long family-style tables and some of the best wedding food imaginable from Crusty Stu Pizza. The relaxed atmosphere encouraged guests to mingle, share stories and soak up every moment together, creating exactly the kind of genuine interactions that documentary wedding photography is all about.
Throughout the day, I photographed their celebration using both digital and 35mm film, blending the timeless, nostalgic character of analogue photography with a modern editorial approach. The result is a wedding gallery full of authentic emotion, beautiful light and honest storytelling that perfectly captures the atmosphere of a summer wedding in Kinsale.
If you're dreaming of a Charles Fort wedding, planning a destination wedding in Cork, or searching for a Kinsale wedding photographer who combines relaxed documentary storytelling with timeless editorial imagery captured on both digital and film, Amy and Ian's wedding is a beautiful example of just how magical a June wedding on Ireland's south coast can be.
