There’s something special about autumn in Wānaka. The lake is calm, the air is crisp, and the trees along Beacon Point turn the most beautiful shades of amber, gold, and rust. It’s hands-down one of my favourite seasons for family photography in Wānaka — and this session was the perfect reminder why.

We met at Beacon Point, a spot that’s ideal for families — easy to access, with sweeping lake views and beautiful pockets of colour along the shoreline. With the low afternoon light filtering through the trees and a relaxed, joyful vibe from the family, it all came together effortlessly.

Letting the Real Moments Happen

The focus of this session, like all of mine, was to capture real connection. No stiff poses or forced smiles — just genuine laughter, hugs, and a bit of playful chaos from the little ones (always encouraged!). We wandered along the lake, paused to soak up the view, and made space for those in-between moments that often end up being the favourites.

I always say the best family photos happen when you forget it’s a photoshoot — and that’s exactly what happened here.
