Some photo sessions are beautiful. Others are meaningful. And sometimes—like this one—they’re both.

Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing Olivia Jane Jenner, a highly regarded Queenstown makeup artist, for a very special mother-and-son photo session at Ayrburn. While Olivia is usually behind the scenes creating radiant looks for brides across New Zealand, this time she stepped in front of the camera with her young son by her side. (Dad, Mikey, was working that day—but we’re saving his spot for the next one!)

Ayrburn, located just minutes from Queenstown, is a destination steeped in charm and history. With over 160 years of heritage, its stone buildings, sun-drenched lawns, and vineyard views provided a dreamy backdrop for this intimate shoot. From the golden afternoon light to the peaceful surroundings, everything about the setting helped create space for authentic connection and simple joy.

Olivia, who holds more than 15 years of experience in the beauty industry, has trained with global brands like NARS, Hourglass, and Natasha Denona, worked Fashion Weeks in Sydney and Melbourne, and has been featured in US & British Vogue. But on this day, it wasn’t about the accolades—it was about being a mum, spending quiet time with her little boy, and preserving this sweet season of life.

There was something truly special about photographing her in this dual role: artist and mother. It was a reminder that even when we're the ones usually behind the brush or the camera or the planning—we deserve to be seen too.

Their bond was beautiful to witness—full of laughter, cuddles, and those tiny, fleeting expressions only mums know to treasure. Olivia’s elegance and warmth came through in every frame, making the session feel both elevated and deeply personal.
